Up Coming Events and Programs

Kicking ass in 2018!!!

Hope everyone is getting out fishing and at least improving their Spey casting. I want to hint at some upcoming things for 2018.

Spey days 2018!!! Can’t wait to see you all.

The Dates of April 6-8 I will be in the Vancouver BC area giving Spey casting classes and a presentation at the Annual Spey Days event hosted by Michael & Young’s fly shop. I always look forward to this event and the people I get to see again and the new ones I meet.

The Intermediate/advanced Spey camps, are going to be some of the best on information and progression of modern Spey casting technique.

I am personally very excited to offer this next event. I have put together an intermediate/advance Spey camp this July. Only 5 students will be during the camp and first come first serve is how the signup will work. The accommodations will be lodge catered dinners and daily steelhead fishing and on river instruction. More details and price to come. The dates will be July 26-28. Don’t be afraid to shoot us an email here to get more info or sign up.

Winter Steelheading is never easy, but sometimes it all comes together. Other time a good guide will help to not only make you better but show you what else is available in the world of Spey casting!!

Keep checking in because more good blogs to come as well and casting tips articles in Swing The Fly magazine. As well as cool stuff coming to the All Waters Angling YouTube channel. Let’s get you on the water!!

Sorry about the lack of posts but we here at AWA have been busy. Deschutes trout season is in full swing and the salmon fly hatch is getting deep into the second half. With yellow sallies and caddis starting to take over feeding patterns from shears down. From Maupin up Norm woods and Clark’s stones have been the best fishing patterns going, paired with droppers  like Batman, crown jewel green drake, Christmas prince, or guides choice hares ear. Dropper sizes should be in the 14-16 size except the drake which is a 10 or 12. The Redsides have been scattered through out all types of water, so search everywhere!!!!

There are no trout like Deschutes Redsides!! Look at those spots.

The Sandy River Spey Clave has come and gone, was a great event!!! Saturday was unreal busy and things were a touch slow on Sunday but that happens. The free casting class on Friday was a huge success and for those who  missed it, don’t next year. In just about a month Spey Nation will be the next big event, don’t miss out on the classes I will be giving while I am there. Fridays class has one more spot and Sundays has 3. Email me for details, dont miss out. I and AWA cant wait to be back on the Salmon. See you all soon!!!

Unless you have been living under a rock, then you have heard that the big bugs are out and about on the lower Deschutes river. All along the large rivers banks hungry trout are waiting for these high calorie morsels to some how tumble into the stream.

perfect redside had to have a stone fly dry!!!

perfect redside had to have a stone fly dry!!!

The big bugs have been going strong in the lower reaches of the river since the end of last month and the fish in the warmsprings stretch have just started to take notice of the stone flies all around them. I have noticed that my dry fly fishing has been made better by fishing a dropper. When we have fished with out one the number of reaction to the dry fly goes down. the best droppers have been, Batman, Xmas prince, and Kyles bead head yellow sally. the in sizes 14-16 and 18″ below the dry have proven very successful.

A dropper below the dry has been a great way to double the amount of hook ups.

If you have been waiting to get out, it is now time!! The river is waiting but the fish and the stone flies wont!! Leaders in the 7.5′ and 4-5x tippets did the trick too. If you feel the need to get out and fish let us here at AWA know, we will get you on the water.
